Reason to start The Challenge

I entered the Max's Challenge back in 2014. I got great results which has inspired me to train ever since, but i have been bulking far too long and lost my way by eating way too much. On top of that I've received news from my doctor explaining that i have hemochromatosis which i inherited from my grandfather. Not good news as my Iron levels are way too high and now i need to donate my blood every 3 months. This condition has caused many side effects including osteoarthritis in the lower back and neck, tiredness, short of breath and blood thickening which can cause all sorts of internal problems. That's why i decided to do the Challenge again, eat right, reduce my body fat and stay fit as long as possible. My doctor advised me to keep up the gym work as it will increase my life expectancy.

What did you like most about The Challenge?

I did my first Max's Challenge back in 2014, which was the greatest platform for me to get to where i am today. I lost a lot of fat with a little muscle gain which was great. I couldn't believe you could transform your body in such a short time. It's now 5 years later, and i'm still training as i did then. Eating well, but was eating too much. My wife suggested to me after i received an email from the Challenge Team notifying me that another Challenge is coming up. So i thought why not give it another go. This time round i liked the different training plan approach, as i have never trained in this way before, plus the food plan had a bigger variety then before. I trialed some of the recipe's which i will use on a weekly basis. I think also there's more information available now on the website too, which is great.

What was the hardest thing about your Challenge?

The hardest thing for me was my mindset. Trying to push hard at training, food preparation, work commitments and cardio. I just kept saying to myself, "Iv'e done this before, i can do it again, just push a little harder and keep the goal in mind". By reverting back to the Max's forum helped me keep on track, looking at other challenges posts and seeing them going through the same challenges as i was.

What impact has The Challenge had on your life?

This Challenge has had a huge impact on my life, looking at a new career in the future, feeling more energetic about life. I'm already planning to do a Body Building competition next year when i turn 50.

What would you say to people who are thinking of doing The Challenge?

Don't think about it, just do it. I had too many thoughts going through my head during the first Challenge, which held me back from giving it all. Just keep a clear open mind, stick with the training and nutrition, keep writing in your journal and follow the Max's forum. All this will help change your life for the better in the future.

Anything else you would like to tell us about your Challenge?

This Challenge has been my greatest feet in years. I have trained for 5 years now, thanks to my first Challenge back in 2014. With lower back problems and having inherited Hemochromatosis, which means i need to give blood every 3 months due to iron overload. I needed this Challenge to keep my health on track. I feel great, lower back pain is very minimal, i have achieved my best results i could ever have imagined. Definitely headed in the right direction for the future.
