Reason to start The Challenge

like many people , i have trained on and off for years , but have never stuck to a serious routine for any length of time , and always made excuses when it came to diet , so as a result i have never got serious results!
i have done a six week challenge in the past to lose weight which i did ,12kgs , but i also lost a lot of muscle along the way ,
so i see the Max's challenge as a way to not only lose fat but build muscle and feel finally fit at fourty and be a more active dad to my kids and a better husband to my wife

What did you like most about The Challenge?

I loved finally seeing results ! I have trained on and off for years , more off than on , and never got serious about my nutrition so I never got any serious results , but this challenge has helped open my eyes as to what is possible with a bit of focus and determination
With other challenges I have looked forward to them being over so that I could get back to my old habits , but with the Max’s challenge I just want to keep going , eating clean and training hard
I have heaps more energy despite training 13 times a week ! so I reckon I’m a better dad and husband to my family.
Oh and did I mention how much easier it is when the supplements actually taste great and you don’t dread your next meal!
My friends have started a 12 week challenge , and she says she nearly gags every time she has to take a protein shake , and I thought that can’t be right , so I tried the same brand with the same result ! yuk! ,
So thanks to whoever at Max’s is responsible for the great flavors !

What was the hardest thing about your Challenge?

In a word alcohol.
I am , or should I say was a regular drinker especially on social occasions and I have a lots of great friends who love to have a drink as well .
But before the challenge it was getting to the stage where I was having a couple of drinks on most nights of the week and it was affecting my energy levels , training , relationship with my wife and taking energy that I should have been giving to my kids.
With the challenge I resolved to go cold turkey right from the beginning , no excuses , no exceptions.
It was really hard at first because I started to realize how much I had become dependent on it , then as the first couple of weeks went past that feeling subsided.
Then the pressure from my friends to “just have one!” kicked in , it’s a bit like they were a bit uncomfortable drinking when I wasn't , but I stood strong with my soda water and lime in one hand while I poured them a drink with the other!
And now they are backing me up and a couple have even started their own 12 week challenge!
The training intensity in the last 4 weeks was harder than what I have ever done , but now its helped to set the bar a bit higher

What impact has The Challenge had on your life?

Its helped me to realize that I can achieve a lot more than I thought , and I am sure that will translate into other areas of my life.
I don’t want to be the lazy dad who uses the tv to babysit his kids so that he can sit on the couch and do nothing , id rather be the dad who’s kids beg him for a rest!

What would you say to people who are thinking of doing The Challenge?

Just do it , and don’t let fear of failure hold you back ,
In the words of midnight oil , “ its better to die on your feet than live on your knees”
And to quote Ben Harper ,” its better to burn out than to fade away”
even if you dont make it all the way the first time , you will be a better version of yourself than if you never tried at all

i really enjoyed the weekly video encouragement from harps and Janet.
Good Cop , Bad Cop !
my ritual was a 6 am box class followed by my breakfast with those two , I,m going to miss that !

    end of week three and 7.5 kgs down ! hoping to get another 1 kg down this week , i have trained 9 times this week , and am starting to look forward to going to bed so i can get back into the gym !

    so two weeks done ! meal prep is done for the next week 5 kgs off ! hungry grumpy pumped for a 6:am box class for some nasty cardio and probably another kg off!

    so its been a great two weeks almost! no alcohol so far , and no withdrawals ! nutrition is going great thanks to prep , and the abs are already starting to show! cant wait to see what another two weeks will do! missed arvo training to mind my kids , but at 830 pm you get the floor to yourself! this is a panoramic shot of my Gym , Sweat SHEd ! the greatest gym in the world!
