Reason to start The Challenge

I enjoy working out and looking and feeling fit but with running my own business and being busy with kids sport I haven’t made as much time for keeping fit as I would like. A torn ACL and subsequent two operations and a love of beer and a good time have definitely held me back as well.

What did you like most about The Challenge?

I liked how structured the challenge was. It was so simple to follow. You eat what you are told to eat and you train how you are told to train. I also really enjoyed reading the journal entries daily and getting on the forums. I probably only found this with a few weeks to go, but it's something I will definitely be using a lot more on my next challenge. I had a couple of forum questions and I received a lot of help and positive comments from the challenge team, coaches and ambassadors.

What was the hardest thing about your Challenge?

The hardest thing about my challenge was that I just didn't have enough hours in the day. I run a business and employ staff. I have two teenage boys that play sport and need running around to training and games everyday of the week. I'm so lucky my wife let me make this challenge my number one priority and did most of the running around. To fit everything in I was up at 3 am everyday to make breakfast, get my lunch ready and into the gym. Then off to work for a 10-12 hour day, come home, try to squeeze in some cardio, make dinner, lunch and get to bed, hoping to get 6-7 hrs sleep. Even though it was hard doing all of this I looked forward to that alarm going off at 3 and I'm still doing it now post challenge.

What impact has The Challenge had on your life?

I'm continuing to train and eat well post challenge. I did have a celebratory couple of beers afterwards, but alcohol isn't a daily thing for me anymore. I've also completely cut out the Coke Zero's and now I only drink water.
Probably the main impact would be my health. I came back from an overseas holiday 18 months ago at 106 kgs. I now weigh 83 kgs. I had high blood pressure and cholesterol and with a family history of heart attacks something had to change.
I've had knee pain for over 3 years as a result of a torn ACL and meniscus. After two operations I was still unable to run due to pain. I can now run pain free. Just the knowledge I've gained through this challenge has equipped me to be able to eat clean and train mean for the rest of my life.

What would you say to people who are thinking of doing The Challenge?

If you are thinking about it, it means you know you need to make a change in your lifestyle. You just have to be honest with yourself and have a go. There are times in the challenge that get tough, but this is where you can read someone's journal entry cor get on the forum and ask a question or ask for some advice. Look at previous results, look at my results, if you stick as close as you can to the program, you will get your own results guaranteed.

Anything else you would like to tell us about your Challenge?

It was very consuming, I spent a lot of my day thinking and preparing for the next training session or meal, but I really enjoyed that side of it.
When I first signed up I showed my wife some previous challengers results and was talking myself up saying I was going to look like them, but deep down knowing I wouldn't. But in the end I did. Haha
