Lean - Intermediate
I have pushed myself for many years when it came to my Health and Fitness. For the past 5 years I have competed in many Obstacle Course Races and focused a lot on stamina and endurance based training due to long distance. Not since my early Personal Trainer days have I focused on sculpting my physique to see what I am capable of achieving. Max Challenge has given me a drive and focus like no other to test myself like never before. I am in this for me, not the bragging rights, but to still put my 30+ year old body through the process of a better me.
The part of the challenge for me was providing me with a new understanding around nutrition, weights, and cardio vascular training. I now better understand my body and the ways in which it responds to protein, carbs, and fats. When I was a Personal Trainer 5 years ago, I never understood these basic principles. You read about it in all the magazines and try to grasp it all, but the Max Challenge forced me to stay dedicated and follow the process right to the very last point. This process allowed me to challenge myself mentally, physically, and emotionally. I have troubles in letting other people tell me how to do things, especially when I have developed lifelong habits, but I am glad that the Max Challenge encouraged me to let go and just trust the process.
Learning to adjust my quantities of food, and also the temptations around all the social settings that I have in my life. I was a massive eater!! I would eat until I was full, and because it tasted so good I just had to have some more. Portion control was not a strong point and I am grateful for this new understating. Over the 12 weeks, I had so many social settings that played games on my mind… I was put down, tempted, giving little options to stay on track, and not once let go of that overwhelming feeling of temptation. Another hard aspect to add with the challenge is that I had to become very selfish in the manner which I needed to complete the task. I felt that it had impacted on other areas of my lives, and those people around me as the challenge became a process that had to work around my life, and the life of others. One aspect that really got to me is the toll that I put on my partner. She put up with so much of my crap when my hormones were out of wack, and I owe it to her for being so strong and loving to cop a crappier side of me at times when I am frustrated and overwhelmed.
When your physical health is in check, it snowballs on all the other areas such as emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. I was cleansed, and my mind was so clear when it came to being motivated with my work, and also my side business. I learned to be very patient in my process and not show any of my progress until right at the very end. My mind frame has been adjusted to better suit a lifestyle where I can reverse this process and pack back on clean muscle which I can appreciate. I have been training for 13 years now, and I can honestly say this is the best shape of my life, and also the most I have ever respected myself in terms of my wellbeing. I have influenced so many others around me to think about their own health, and it has shown through the little changes they make to better themselves every day.
You won’t regret it. Be prepared to be challenge to all your breaking points. This challenge has many markers that can set you up to break, but your mind and life have to be in a position that will allow you to make changes that will dramatically affect and alter each and every day. If you lacked all the motivation, knowledge and direction with your health and physical understanding, then the Max Challenge is a foundation for you to grow in such a short space of time. This challenge will set you up to stand out above the rest and really get you into top gear!
Thank you for the opportunity, and thank you for a program that is proven to work. Every weekly video, and all the coach’s advice clearly stated to just believe and follow the process, and for the very first time in my life, I actually constantly listened to someone for three months straight and it didn’t steer me in the wrong direction. Thank you for allowing me to step outside my comfort zone by making myself accountable to my health publically, and also getting a tan/wax for the first time ever!!!! Overall I had fun, and this process strengthened relationships with certain people who have assisted me in this challenge. People believed in me, and have said some of the most positive things.. at the same time people have been naysayers and put me down calling me skinny… too bad I came out looking like a machine hey hahahaha!

Man what a crazy journey this has been. I have learned so much about my own body and the limits that it can take. Especially when you are putting so much strain on yourself in a natural way, this process can really make or break you. But just like the coaches said, trust and follow this process, and you will get the results. I followed everything exactly how they said. No more, or no less and they were very right. Thank you Max Challenge for the foundation.
I am just so happy to lose 11.4cm from my waist, but really upset that all my favourite shorts, belts, and chinos really don't fit me anymore. I started at a 32, and I am pretty sure I will get into a 28!! that's a babies weight. Looking forward to staying lean and packing on a little more clean muscle by reversing the process through the diet & training.
Got my chance to indulge on all my favourite treats for the past two days to get it out of my system and already missed my old routine. Still on with my training and meal plans with some added extra's to help me move away from deficiency.
I look forward to having family dinners and also just being able to socialise with my mates once more so that I don't come across as such an awkward bloke hahaha.
Had a mad journey!
Well one must say that I have woken up a very happy man to some very promising results so far. In terms of the social media and public side of things I like to fly under the radar so that I am sure to produce the results I want by producing the final product with that massive wow factor!!! Also I am soooooo busy with my hectic life!
So at 7am this morning this is where I stand:
Weight: 72.5kg (down 3.7kg from start)
Chest: 100cm (up 1.4cm from start)
Stomach: 82cm (down 4cm from start) wooo hoooo!!!!!!!
Hips: 89.2cm (down 2.8cm)
Right thigh: 58cm (up 3cm from start) yes they are growing again!!
Right arm: 32.3cm (down 2.2cm from start) :( I would say because I used to isolate them heavily in my previous training and also do them twice a week
Looking at this next meal plan is intense!!!!!! I love the new training. That's more my style now hahaha.
Haven't put an entry in since day 1 of the challenge so I do apolagise guys as I have been flat out between full time work, study, and my part time business.
But you would be happy to know that I have not dropped off the band wagon what so ever. Kicking goals each and every day. I was struggling at first to eat the food sources that were provided to us as the hunger pangs were crazy!!! Prior to this challenge I was a chronic snacker, and had to snack every time I was watching a movie or going on longer drives. I don't need to snack these days, and when given the option to have afternoon snack meals when hungry, I have no desire now to eat something until dinner time which I am happy about.
Training has been the best, as I am a 5:30am morning trainer, my strength is increasing at a rapid rate! I effectively record all my sets and reps each session, and try to beat my last session based off ongoing data.
Did a sneaky measurement check after one week and has found that 3cm dropped off around my waist line. Let's hope this will be an ongoing thing and the fat just melts away.
Day 1 went extremely well!
Decided that I was getting curious about the kind of calories I burn during my workout. I like to train hard, and always have taken that approach with my training, especially when I train myself up for Spartan Races.
Today I attacked the Lower Body Intermediate Session and crushed my workout in an hour 20 min and burning 882 calories!!!!!! This got me a little worried as my intake for the day is at a real low level on the Intermediate Lean Plan, but I did manage the day without fatigue nor did I have a coffee "winning". I do worry that because I have worked hard for the past three months to put almost 3 kgs of size on again, that being too calorie deficit will start eating into those precious muscles stores. All is good, and I will trust in the process. Didn't stray away from my meal plans, even though this afternoon I was craving a protein bar like crazy, but just left it in the fridge.
Because my partner isn't awake at 4:30am in the morning, I wasn't able to get her to do my measurements till after dinner. So here is my stats from the start of the challenge based of my Tanita Scales and Measurements.
Weight: 76.2kg (after dinner)
Body Fat: 10.5%
Body Water: 61.1%

Muscle Mass: 64.8kg
Right Thigh: 54.9cm
